Second Hakafot

Each year a varied crowd of many thousands from all over Israel comes to the yeshiva to rejoice together on the evening after Simchat Torah.

“Rav Elazar said ‘The 70 offerings brought on Sukkot correspond to the 70 nations of the world. The single bull sacrificed on Shemini Atzeret corresponds to the singular nation, Israel. This concept is similar to a flesh-and-blood king of who said to his servants, ‘Prepare me a great feast that will last for several days.’ Then on the last day, he said to his beloved servant, ‘Prepare me a small feast so that I can enjoy time with you alone.’”
