“It is a tree of life to those who embrace it, and its supporters are blessed”
Yeshivat Har Hamor was founded in Jerusalem in 5758 (1998), by the pupils of our rabbis and teachers Rav Zvi Yehuda HaCohen Kook, ztz”l and his father, Rav Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook ztz”l: Rav Zvi Israel Tau, Rav Amiel Sternberg, Rav Mordechai Sternberg ztz”l, Rav Yehoshua Zuckerman ztz”l, Rav Oded Volansky, Rav Yaacov Levanon and Rav Eliahu Ariel Edri.
The yeshiva is headed by our rabbi and teacher Rav Amiel Sternberg.
After several moves from one Jerusalem neighborhood to another, the yeshiva eventually established its permanent Beit Midrash in the Chomat Shmuel (Har Homa) neighborhood. Yeshivat Har Hamor currently has some 800 students, half of whom are avrechim who learn diligently day and night, studying all aspects of Torah with great dedication and devotion. The students serve in the Israel Defense Forces during their years at the yeshiva, each student according to what suits him best, and in consultation with his rabbis.
The Yeshiva is known for its in-depth and high level study of Shas and the poskim.
The yeshiva’s curriculum includes a regular cycle of the main tractates of Babylonian Talmud, with a focus on one tractate during each semester, and with the goal that after several years each student will acquire knowledge and understanding of the principles in the main issues in Shas.
The curriculum also includes a wide variety of other aspects of Torah study, such as halacha, dayanut, quick reviews, etc.
Students at Har Hamor set aside time each day to delve into the deeper meaning of the Torah, by reading the teachings of Rav Abraham Yitzchak Kook ztz”l, with a focus on the importance of Torah in our times, in this the period of “the revealed end of the Exile.”
Many classes on the in-depth and thorough study of main books of emuna are given by Har Hamor rabbis who had the privilege of hearing insights on this subject directly from Rav Zvi Yehuda ztz”l and from some of his greatest pupils. In addition, the students allocate hours to reviewing the books on emuna written by the Rishonim, the Maharal, Rav Kook and others, studying either on their own or with a chavruta regular study partner.
The married students at Har Hamor are also teachers and educators in their home neighborhoods (Chomat Shmuel, Gilo, Kiryat HaYovel and Kiryat Menachem) and are bringing the blessing of Torah study to the general public in these neighborhoods.
Many Har Hamor alumni continue their work in education, becoming school principals and heads of yeshivas, while other alumni become career army officers, while maintaining their close ties to the yeshiva for both continuing their Torah studies and for seeking advice from the rabbis.
